Where to Find the Config File
After installing CS 1.6 (Steam or Non‑Steam), the configuration file is located here:

cstrike/config.cfg
This file loads automatically every time you start the game.
How to Install the Basic Config
1. Close the game
Make sure CS 1.6 is not running before you replace any files.
2. Navigate to the cstrike folder
Default Steam path:
Kod
Steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/
3. Replace the config.cfg file
Copy your new config.cfg into the cstrike folder and overwrite the existing one.
If you want to keep your old settings, make a backup first:
config_backup.cfg
4. Launch the game
Start CS 1.6 and the new settings will load automatically.
